Happy Veterans Day & A Layout

Just had to post this today.
Because today is the day that the US is celebrating Veterans Day,
I did this layout in remembrance of my grandfather, Dora William Jones.
Created for the DSO November Shape Challenge
Journaling reads ...
You are my grandfather, although I never met you.
You passed away before I was even born.
All I have of you is this picture, that you signed
and sent home, and your military records.
You served in the U.S. Navy during World War 2
Thank you for being the father of my Daddy,
and for fighting for the US, so that your descendants
could live free.
With all my love, your granddaughter, Kim

You can click on the image to see it a little bigger.

I used the zoom template by Tracy Drane (again) for this layout.
The ship's wheel, the port hole, the background are all from the kit -

The frame, journaling paper, stars, & (paper to fill) arrow are all by me
fonts used are

Thank you for looking at my layout. And thank you to all the Veterans!

Happy Fall Ya'll ! & Freebie

Happy Veterans Day to all of the Veterans! My husband, father, grandfathers, & uncles, have all served in different branches of the service over the years.
I have a nephew who is overseas now, Love ya, Sherman!

I created this layout for the DSO November Element Challenge by HoleyCow. I created the papers used in this layout myself, and there
were a few who liked them, so I thought I would offer them to you here. I used the Fall Leaves template #4 from Baubles -N- Scraps. She has some great templates to offer on her blog.
The pictures are of the beautiful state of Kentucky.

Just click on the image to see it full size

Here is a preview of the papers package

You can download these papers here
If you like this and have a spare minute I appreciate reading your thank you's and thoughts on my work.
I'd like to say a special THANK YOU to all that have left comments in the past you really inspire me.

Have a nice afternoon and evening.

November Color Challenge & Freebie

I've decided to try my hand at a kit, for KimB's November Color Challenge at DSO. You just have to make a layout using 3 of 5 colors or make a mini kit using 3 of the 5 colors. And she has a beautiful gift for you if you decide to take the challenge
I used all 5, as I couldn't decide on just 3. LOL.
Green has never been one of my favorite colors. But I gave it a try just the same.
So you get another freebie from me, this time a little more than just papers.
*Big Smile*
The party hat was included especially for KimB as yesterday was her birthday. Happy belated birthday Kim!
Hope someone can find a use for it.
The word art, Live, Love, Laugh, is one of my favorite sayings, so I just had to add it in here too.

If you noticed I've made a new banner, I like to change things around a lot. This one has a picture of me and my dear hubby/best friend.

Well enough talk, here is the freebie for today. Just click the picture to see a bigger preview.

You can download this kit here

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to tell you that DSO is celebrating their first birthday! Lots of things going on, and lots of sales!!! Hop on over there and take a peek for yourself.

Sweet Potato Casserole & Freebie

I've completed my first challenge for November!
Kristine has a recipe challenge over at DSO to scrap your favorite Thanksgiving recipes. She has a beautiful prize you will get if you choose to try the challenge!

We have several favorite Thanksgiving & Christmas recipes, but the one that I chose to scrap is a favorite by the whole family. :)
It is Sweet Potato Casserole, and can be made with fresh or canned sweet potatoes.
Just click on the image to see it full size.

You can go here or here to see my LO at DSO.

The journaling reads:

A southern sweet potato casserole recipe,
made with mashed sweet potatoes
and a crunchy pecan topping.

3 cups mashed sweet potatoes
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup melted butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup flour
1/3 cup melted butter
1 cup chopped pecans

Combine first 6 ingredients.
Pour into a buttered 1 1/2 to 2-quart casserole dish.
Mix remaining ingredients together
and sprinkle over top.
Bake at 350° for 30 to 40 minutes,
until hot and browned.
Serves 6 to 8.

I based the LO on the Zoom template from Tracy's Scraps. She has some wonderful templates, and lots of other goodies to share. Thanks again Tracy!

I made the papers for this layout myself, and will offer them to you here if you want them. There is also a text version of the recipe included in the download

You can download this freebie here. Thanks to all those who take the time to leave me comments or to just say thank you! You inspire me.
