Cherish The Memories

I have a couple of layouts to share with you today. This first one is of my gg-grandfather. I was lucky to receive this photo from an older cousin, when I started trying to trace my roots. I love the older photos such as this. It always makes me wonder what the person's life was like.
As for my gg-grandfather, I do know some of his history.

He went by his middle name, Henry.
In 1862 He enlisted in the 4th KY. Calvary of the Confederate Army, and left his wife, Mary, and one child (my g-grandfather) at home.
He had a horse shot from under him in the war. After the war, Henry returned home and farmed with his father, David.
Henry and Mary had a total of three sons, the oldest being my great-grandfather. Mary died at the birth of the third son.
Henry remarried at least once more, possibly more.
I did a layout a few days ago of his son (my g-grandfather), you can see it a couple of posts down.
I used the same template as in the layout yesterday.
You can get so many different looks from the same template.

Fonts used are Malone & GilliesGotDLig
Kit used is Victorian Memories by June Schutrups aka Cen'Stuff
Template is tempch4 by Cen's Stuff

In the second layout, the photo is of my youngest child, who was born to be wild. He loved being outdoors, playing, climbing trees, hills, wading creeks. Catching frogs, bugs, snakes (non-poisonous, but still scary to me). I can laugh about these things today, but let me tell you he was really a handful while growing up. I never knew what to expect! LOL

Font used is Times and Times again

June has generously allowed me to share this quick page with you here.

When I saw this new kit of June's 'Go Wild' I just knew I had to have it!
It is perfect for all the wild kids in our lives!!
I'm sure everyone has at least one. Smiling

Crazy Weather In KY

What crazy weather we have had overnight here in Kentucky. High winds, rain, some tornado's, then sleet!! I hope that all of my readers here in KY are ok today. My son called this morning to tell me that he was in his garage, the garage was lifted up off of him and then threw on it's top in a field. He was scared to death, I thank God that he is ok and able to tell me about it this morning. At our house it was mostly picking up things out of the yard that had blown in it from, the neighbors house's.

I want to share a layout that I did for the weekly challenge at Cen's Loft. This week you get a template to use, plus a beautiful posting gift. You still have time to enter a layout, just head on over there grab the template and get your layout sent in to June.

This is a picture of my brother and myself made years ago, on Easter at our Grandparents home. My brother and I were close over the years. But he passed away as the result of a car wreck in 1984.
I cherish these memories that I have of him.

Quote for the day

To the outside world we all grow old. But not to brothers and sisters. We know each other as we always were. We know each other's hearts. We share private family jokes. We remember family feuds and secrets, family griefs and joys. We live outside the touch of time.

Genealogy & Digiscrapping

I like genealogy as much as I like scrapbooking. The only problem is my maiden name is such a common one and so very hard to trace. Do you have any idea how many Jones' there are? LOL
I have managed to get back through three great-grandparents though. And even received a few photos, the one in the LO I'm sharing today is of my great-grandfather. What a man, still cutting his own wood at the age of 96!! I just wish that I had a little of his 'get-up-n-go'!
I did this layout for the shape challenge at DSO, where somewhere in the LO had to be the shape of a hat,(he is wearing one).
Also for the fun with fonts challenge over at 3Scrapateers. This was my very first time to do a challenge over there.

The quote I used in this LO is a Chinese proverb,
"To forget one's ancestor's is to be a brook without a source, a tree without root”

the journaling reads...
James David, the son of John Henry and Mary
was born October 11, 1861
in Palmyra, Trimble County, KY.
He died march 16, 1959
in Madison, Jefferson County IN.
He married Margaret Jemima Crafton
on February 12, 1896
They had a total of eight children
of which my grandfather was the youngest

Kim's Spicey Alpha Is Out!!

I've only got a few minutes today, as I've got so much that I need to catch up on. Yesterday, one of my granddaughters spent the day with me. We did nothing but play and bake cookies all day. So today I have a lot to do! But it was all worth it, she is such a joy to have around.

The other day I showed you a layout that I did using this Alpha.
See the post below.
This is the very first alpha that I've ever made! I had a lot of fun creating it.
Well now you can grab it...

You can download Kim's Spicey Alpha today at Cen's Loft

Would love to see any layouts that you do, using this or any of my work. Just email me, my email addy is on the right up at the top the layout, or where you have it posted, so I can stop by and leave ya some luv.
Now my housework is calling me to finish what I've started. LOL

The third layout I did for Tracy's Template Challenge at MIS. I received this picture from an older cousin while working on my family tree. I had never got to meet this grandfather as he passed away before I was ever born. But I cherished my Grandmother, I think that she looked so pretty in this picture. This photo was made sometime between 1936-1938 in Trimble County, Kentucky. I don't particularly like the color green, but I think this sampler of Kim's was perfect for this layout. Thanks for sharing it Kim!

Love Is....

I have been busy doing several layouts for challenges. I thought I would share this one with you here.
With it I managed to combine 5 challenges in one layout!
For DSO's - Quote Challenge
K-Joi's - template & font challenges
Monday Blog Challenge at Cen's Loft
Weekly Color/LO Challenge (Purple)at Sweetz Scrapz
I happened to get lucky enough to marry my best friend,
so I choose to do this layout.
The photo is of me and my Hubby/Best Friend, Tony.
Actually it was two different photos, one of me and one of Tony. I put them together because we didn't get any made on this particular day together, as no-one else was there to take the photo.

Journaling reads...
Love is friendship set to music.

Romance may be fiction,
Passion just a trend.
But love is everlasting
When you're married to a friend.

Have Something To Share With You

I have created this kit for the color challenge at DSO.
I have added things in this kit that I've never tried to make before
such as the notepad and the prongs, these are my very first attempt
at making them. They could be better, I'm sure but I thought that I would add them in anyway. As for the papers in my kit, I was asked if I could make velvety looking papers, can't say that I actually figured out how yet. But I was playing around in PSP, and liked the way that these papers turned out so decided to keep them. Although I can't really say that they look velvety. I will keep trying to make some velvet looking papers though and will be sure to share them with you when I succeed.

There are several other very talented ladies who have also created things for this color challenge, so if you wanted you could end up with one beautiful Mega Kit!
After you finish here, just head on over to DSO's color challenge which is hosted by none other than Kim Broedelet. You will find the links to the other kits in the same color scheme all posted there!

Plus if you do a layout (or create your own mini kit) for this challenge, Kim has a beautiful posting gift for you in the same colors. And you can use any of the kits or mix and match from any for your LO's in the challenge. If you like freebies, the way that I do, this is to good to pass up!

This kit has in it ...

10 papers 12x12
5 bows
2 frames
2 notepads
2 flowers
2 prongs
2 ribbons

Have a wonderful day,
And remember to smile or say a few kind words to someone today.
You just might brighten their day without even realizing it!

Comfort Food

I have a recipe that I would like to share with you for one of my favorite
'comfort foods'.
This time of the year is a great time for Chicken Noodle Soup.
With colds and flu, it always seems to make a person feel better.
And I have a recipe for making it that is really easy!
Besides using a canopener and can of soup LOL

Chicken Noodle Soup

1 pound boneless, skinless chicken meat
4 cubes chicken bouillon
8 cups water
2 cups egg noodles

Measure water into a large pot, and add chicken and
chicken bouillon. Boil until chicken is fully cooked.
Remove chicken from the broth. Chop into small
pieces, and return meat to the pot.
Add egg noodles, and cook until tender

I have scrapped this recipe for the January recipe challenge over at
DSO by Lynn

Full Credits here

I also have a freebie to share with you today. I received an email asking if the freebies that everyone has can be used in the Scrapbook Flair program, which is a free program to make scrapbook layouts. Yes they can! When you click on the button to add embellishments (on the left) look at the bottom and click on "add my own embellishments", then you just go to where you have saved them when you downloaded them, and add them to your Scrapbook. This QP I actually laid out in the Scrapbook Flair program to show that it can be done, I then took it back to my PSP (Paint Shop Pro) to turn it into a QP for you. This quickpage is made using all stuff that I have created. The kit and wordart are both available for download also, if you have missed them previously, see below the QP for the downloads again.
